Bronchospasm and laryngeal stridor as an adverse effect of oxytocin treatment

چکیده
Oxytocin is a synthetically prepared hormone that stimulates contractions of uterine smooth muscle and it is used for induction and augmentation of labor as well as in abortions. Adverse effects reported with oxytocin include reflex tachycardia, hypotension, electrocardiographic changes, increased cardiac output, myocardial infarction, alteration in fetal heart rate, seizures, headache, memory impairment, cerebrospinal bleeding, hyponatremia, syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion, nausea and vomiting, uterine rupture, neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, and anaphylaxis [1]. To our knowledge, bronchospasm and laryngeal stridor occur very rarely in oxytocin anaphylaxis.

Multiple Myeloma Presenting as Respiratory Stridor
Extramedullary plasmacytoma occurs in 18% of patients with multiple myeloma. Laryngeal involvement in multiple myeloma is rare, and only a few cases have been reported. She had evidence of multiple myeloma of IgA la...

There are other conditions causing laryngeal stridor in young babies, sometimes from birth, which are graver than t...

Background and Objective: Stridor is considered as a serious adverse complication of intubation that may lead to respiratory distress, reintubation, and further complications. Intravenous steroids including dexamethasone are assumed as an effective therapy. However, their associated side effects pose a limit on their usage. This study was carried out to elucidate the effect of intravenous dexam...
